GitHub improved the Copilot usage metrics API to make reports more complete and accurate. The update adds support for Copilot CLI suggested lines of code and includes users that were previously only partially captured.
GitHub will deprecate Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash across all Copilot experiences on July 31. This includes Copilot Chat, inline edits, ask and agent modes, and code completions.
GitHub has put Copilot agent session streaming into public preview for Enterprise Cloud customers with enterprise managed users. Session data is available across Copilot clients, including cloud agents on github.com and data-resident deployments.

Enterprise admins can now set `model: auto` in enterprise-managed `managed-settings.json` so GitHub Copilot uses auto model selection by default for new conversations. This setting is added in `.github-private/.github/copilot/managed-settings.json` for enterprise-managed configuration.
Kimi K2.7 Code is now generally available in GitHub Copilot. It is the first open-weight model available as a selectable option in the Copilot model picker.
Copilot Vision is now generally available. You can attach images and PDFs to chat prompts so Copilot can use them alongside your code when responding.
GitHub Copilot CLI and the GitHub Copilot SDK now support AI credit session limits, letting you cap how much an agent can spend in a single session. This is intended to help control usage during longer-running agent workflows.
Browser tools for GitHub Copilot in VS Code are now generally available. GitHub also clarified which permissions remain under user control and noted that existing network domain controls still apply.

Claude Sonnet 5 is now generally available in GitHub Copilot. GitHub says it offers strong coding performance for everyday development and agentic workflows as a new Sonnet-class model option.
GitHub and JetBrains announced a deeper integration between JetBrains AI Assistant and GitHub Copilot. Copilot Agent is now available inside JetBrains AI Assistant.

GitHub Copilot is rolling out Claude Opus 4.8 in preview with fast mode enabled. GitHub says fast mode increases output token speed while keeping the same model intelligence.
